Newport Beach native Darin Rasmussen has called Laguna Beach home for twenty years. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to start several businesses in Orange County, including inventing the first all-natural energy cocktail mixers, Kicktail Energy Mixers. Prior to that, he founded DBStudios, producing retail marketing environments for large brands. Darin is a Laguna Beach foodie and a mixology enthusiast.
In The Neighborhood
Laguna Beach is unique from other Orange County beach towns. From its coastal coves and cliffs to the charming village and art community, Laguna is amazing. The culinary scene is top notch too!
Oak: This has become a new favorite for me and my friends. Really creative drinks and great bites — like the meatballs and the tacos.
Coyote Grill: Best place in Laguna for Baja-Mex breakfast, lunch and dinner. Nowhere else can you get fish and eggs for breakfast. Plan for local lobster season, it’s loco!! (Don’t forget to kick up your favorite cocktail with a Kicktail Mixer here!)
La Sirena Grill: Best freshest Mex possible. I hit this place several times a week for good reason.
Laguna Thai by the Sea: All made to order and so good they sometimes run out of items – or simply stop answering the phone for new orders.
Bagels, bowls or brunch … Laguna has so many great breakfast spots. Then there is also sunset and evening dining gems. And don’t forget an evening cocktail around OC!
San Shi Go: Best sushi period! Baked spicy California rolls and halibut rolls rock. Also, try the yellowtail appetizer with a Sapporo. Kompai!
Starfish: Super innovative pacific cuisine menu great drinks and ultra-cozy digs. Try the wontons and the Miso Black Cod with coconut rice. Actually, try everything it’s so damn good.
Lumber Yard: My favorite salmon dish in town. I order it a la Darin with mashed potatoes and broccolini.
Andree’s Patisserie: 100 percent legit pastries that are so delicious. Baked little pieces of heaven. It’s a hidden gem so good luck finding it.
In Laguna, there are some must-hit restaurants for amazing cuisine as well as for cocktails and craft beers. These are some of my favorites…
Nick’s Laguna Beach: All-time Laguna favorite. This is where I take all my friends when they visit me.
Splashes at Surf N Sand Hotel: As close to the water you can get while dining and drinking. Splash Bar is a cozy date night spot.
