A great end to a greater yearly event.

Negroni Week Party and Competition

Santa Ana, CA 92701

Negroni Week, the yearly celebration of one of the world’s most beloved and storied cocktails, comes to a close this Sunday, June 30th. At first, that seems like a sad premise, as it is the end of a celebration that not only comes laden with many iterations of the now hundred-year-old concoction, but also raises money all over the world for various charities. In Orange County, you can celebrate the week’s culmination by making your way to Playground in Santa Ana this Sunday for the 5th annual Negroni Week Party and Competition. Presented by Inspire Artistic Minds, the OC Bartender’s Cabinet, and Blinking Owl Distillery, this competition features six talented, local bartenders showcasing their signature variations of the Negroni for a panel of judges in hopes of taking home the win. The line-up this year includes:

Anese St. Jean, Harley Laguna Beach

Rachel Keeney, Pie Society

Richard Henry, Studio at Montage Laguna Beach

Christian Zamudio, Twisted Tiki

Rafael Ramirez, Vaca

Bradley Eston, Navy Proof

All in attendance at the closing event are suggested to make a $10 donation upon entry, which includes the chance to sample each Negroni variation and vote for their favorite cocktail! Campari will also have their Aperol cart onsite to prepare spritzers, making this the ultimate Sunday-Funday affair. In addition, Burntzilla will be the exclusive food vendor at the event and will be serving up an extra special menu item to those in attendance. They’ll be serving a special Fried Chicken slider with a honey garlic glaze made with Blinking Owl Aquavit. Guests will sip, smile and clink glasses throughout this celebratory event at Playground DTSA.

Negroni Week itself was founded years ago by Imbibe and Campari respectively. Participating venues feature the drink, in either its classic iteration or interpreted by the bartenders, and donate proceeds to various charities of their choosing. While this year’s addition may end on Sunday, you can still enjoy local iterations of the Negroni at various spots all over the county. Farmhouse at Roger’s Garden, and Five Crowns are among the roster of local bar programs supporting this effort. Each offering fantastic amalgams on their respective menus which you should absolutely go enjoy while the event is still on. To-date, Negroni Week has raised millions for various organizations around the world. What better way to celebrate one of history’s great drinks then to raise money for others with every enjoyable sip? Cheers.
