ecorating cakes and cupcakes are always sure to be a good time, but sometimes the chaos and mess of doing it at home can take the fun out of the activity. Duff Goldman, also known as the “Ace of Cakes,” has found a way to make dessert-decorating fun for everyone. With the opening of Duff’s Cakemix in 2012, comes a new idea to add to your Los Angeles bucket list. Taking the hassle out of creating, Cakemix is the perfect place to take your kids for a day of desserts, or maybe just you and your friends.

It all starts with either a reservation or a drop-in. Customers have the opportunity to choose either a set of six cupcakes or a six-inch cake to decorate. Here’s where the fun begins: Cakemix provides everything. From fondant to fun tools, you can leave the stress at home and allow the magic to happen.

Upon entering, customers are greeted by a colorful setup, a room filled with inspiration for all your design dreams.

Through a glass window lays Charm City Cakes West, Goldman’s Los Angeles location of his famous East Coast bakery. Guests can watch real-life cake artists work on their masterpieces while they create their own.

Adorned with example cakes and ideas, it’s nearly impossible to decide what to transform your sweet treat into. Guests choose the flavor of their cake or cupcakes and the fondant color wrapping if they decide to decorate a cake. After the big decision comes the opportunity to pick fondant and frosting colors, along with candy for topping (or eating).

Insiders tip: Weekends can get pretty packed, so make a reservation ahead of time on their website to ensure that you get your spot. A favorite pick for celebrities and their kids, you just might run into some familiar faces.

If you’re wanting more than the average experience, Cakemix also books parties, where guests get the chance to host their own version of Cake Wars. Birthdays, bachelorette parties, and baby showers are just some of the many ways in which the people who come choose to celebrate.

Not much of a creative type? You don’t have to worry. The staff is more than happy to help you bring your ideas to life, assisting with inspiration and hands-on help. You’ll learn how to make fondant roses, edible emojis, and whatever you need to know in order to make your dessert dreams come true.

This one of a kind experience is exclusive to Los Angeles, so start working on that Pinterest board and plan out a day to try it out for yourself.
