In the Neighborhood

When the days are long and traffic ever growing, eating local is preferred. With so many great restaurants in OC and where I live in Newport Beach especially, having a drink, quick bite or memorable dining experience close to home is a personal favorite.

A Restaurant (Newport Beach) Curated cheese and charcuterie selections, award-winning steaks, and nightly Chef specials make A Restaurant a regular and frequent stop on my dining tour. The off-menu A Burger with fries is a must order.

A Market (Newport Beach) Quaint gourmet market right next to A Restaurant serving a quick and fabulous breakfast, lunch or grab-and-go snack. The intimate wine store has an excellent selection for the perfect dinner party gift.

Lighthouse Bayview Café (Newport Beach)  Great breakfast, lunch or dinner spot with unobstructed bayfront views from every seat in the house. If you are out on the water, it’s an ideal dine and dock option.

SideDoor (Corona del Mar)  A neighborhood favorite gastropub with a cozy atmosphere and ever-changing seasonal menu. Check out the unique beer program and regular tap takeover events.

Weekend Eats

For me, weekends are best for enjoying breakfast and brunching with friends and family. Indulging in classic breakfast menu items, live station buffets, and bottomless beverages can transport you on a mini vacation, just for the weekend.

Back Bay Bistro (Newport Beach)  An unforgettable brunch experience with multiple live food stations, an endless seafood bar, and bottomless mimosas. Dock and dine, paddleboard up or ride your bike and indulge.

House of Blues Restaurant & Bar (Anaheim) The new House of Blues Anaheim offers the best live entertainment meets Southern-inspired eats with the Gospel Brunch and World Fabulous Drag Brunch. Get your tickets well in advance and consider these destination brunches for your next noteworthy party.

oak (Laguna Beach)  A new hot spot for dinner, lunch, and Sunday brunch. Executive Chef Chris Tzorin brings a new local flare to comfort food at the beach.

Miguel’s Jr. (Costa Mesa / Huntington Beach) I have a serious weakness for the Chorizo Breakfast Burrito with a housemade Horchata. When on the go, the drive-thru is quick and convenient.

Destination Dining

In Orange County, we are so fortunate to have so many noteworthy dining destinations in our own backyard. From fabulous food, a bit of history, impressive views, or a romantic setting, the OC culinary scene is definitely a must-stop destination for those outside of the orange curtain.

Five Crowns (Corona del Mar) Historic and elegant, this English landmark has been drawing Hollywood’s elite to dine in CDM for over 50 years. Known for the prime rib, the seafood selections are fresh, seasonal and always delicious. Try the new Cooper’s Bar for a cocktail and starter before dinner in the Greenhouse.

Farmhouse at Roger’s Gardens (Newport Beach)  A field-to-fork concept like no other, Executive Chef and Owner Rich Mead brings the freshest selections from the farmer’s market straight to the table. The enchanting outdoor garden environment makes for a great lunch spot. Try the fresh house infused Kombucha on tap for the perfect refreshing pairing.

The Beachcomber (Newport Coast)  Nestled in the cliff of Crystal Cove State Park, this beachfront, on sand, throwback dining destination is a must for locals and visitors. Watch the waves crash and the sun set on the patio, which hosts the Bootlegger Bar, pouring everything from a tropical slush to classic cocktail. The traditional Martini Flag raises every day at 5 pm and sunset.

Ruby’s Diner (Multiple Locations) Ruby’s Diner is an OC staple for what can arguably be America’s best burgers, fries, and shakes. Celebrating 35 years of tradition, with locations all over the country, the Ruby’s Shake Shack at Crystal Cove sits high up on the cliff with an endless view of the Pacific Ocean and coast from the outdoor dining deck.
